Display the read-aloud books Building a House by Byron Barton and The Three Little Pigs by Paul Galdone. Look at and acknowledge children’s artwork, writing, and charts displayed around the room. Then talk about what children did and learned this week, including their work in the learning centers.

For example, say, This week we learned about building houses and the tools used to build houses and homes.

  • Tell me some things you learned about tools and building houses.
  • Tell me what shapes we might see in houses and buildings in the neighborhood.

We also learned about the materials used for building.

  • What materials did you use to build houses with this week?
  • What materials worked best for making houses? Roofs? Walls?
  • Did some materials work better at the bottom of the house and others at the top? Which ones? Why do you think so?
  • What other strategies did you use to make strong houses?

We also learned about the letter “Bb” and we revisited the letter “Hh.” We talked about the words build and house. Tell me a word that begins with “Bb” and a word that begins with “Hh.”

We read a version of the folktale The Three Little Pigs and saw a video of a different version of the same folktale.

Let children choose a favorite rhyme or song from the week to recite or sing together.
