Letter Search and Collage (“Tt”)
Skill Focus: Fine Motor Skills, Letter Recognition, Vocabulary
Have children search through store flyers, magazines, and newspapers for the uppercase “T” and the lowercase “t.” Tell children to circle the letters with a marker.
Write an uppercase “T” and a lowercase “t” at the top of a piece of construction paper for each child, or let him or her write them. Have children cut out the letters “Tt” they found and glue them on the construction paper. Give help with cutting as needed.
Adaptation: Family-based childcare educators and smaller group-based classrooms may want to do only the letter activity. Adapt letter-shaping materials if younger children will be working individually. Use dough in place of modeling clay and large pieces of straws and craft sticks in place of pipe cleaners and short straws.
