ELA Focus Skills: Name Recognition, Phonological Awareness (Rhythm and Repetition)

Tell children you will begin the day with “Sing, Sing, Sing with Me” again. Say, Today when I sing, I will hold up a name card. If I hold up your name card, say your name. Then we will all repeat your name.

Model the procedure if necessary. Begin “Sing, Sing, Sing with Me” and invite children to join in. As you sing the last line, hold up a name card at random. Have that child say his or her name. Have everyone repeat the child’s name. Continue until each child has been named.

 Sing, Sing, Sing with Me
(sung to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)
Sing, sing, sing with me,
Sing out loud and clear.
Happily, happily, happily, happily,
We’re glad that <child’s name> is here.

Social Emotional Tip: Interactions with and response to others helps children learn to build positive relationships.
