Sing Together: “I’m Feeling Sorry”
ELA Focus Skills: Listening and Speaking, Phonological Awareness (Rhythm and Rhyme), Vocabulary
Ask children to recall the story of Tell the Truth, B. B. Wolf. Say, Wolf told the little pigs he was sorry that he blew their houses away. What did he do for the little pigs to show that he was really sorry?
After children respond, tell them you are going to teach them a song about the wolf and the three pigs.
- Say, In this song, the wolf sings some words and the pigs sing other words. Listen as I sing both parts. Then we will sing it together!
- Sing the song through. As you start, say, This is what the wolf sings.
- As you start the second half, say, This is what the pigs sing.
- You may wish to tell children that the words make amends in the song mean “to fix or put things right.”
- Invite half the group to sing the wolf’s part and half to sing the pigs’ part.
- Once children learn the lyrics, have them hum the melody one more time as they join hands and dance as friends.
I’m Feeling Sorry
(sung to the tune of “You Are My Sunshine”)
(Wolf sings)
I’m feeling sorry,
I’m oh so sorry,
That I blew your house away.
I’ll do much better,
Oh, so much better,
If you’ll give me a chance today.
I will be nicer
And not a villain,
I’ll never bully anyone.
You’ll learn to like me,
I know you’ll like me,
And together we’ll all have fun!
(Pigs sing)
We’re glad you’re sorry,
So glad you’re sorry,
That you blew our houses away.
If you do better,
Oh, so much better,
Then we’ll give you a chance today.
So we forgive you,
Yes, we forgive you,
Because you tried to make amends.
You proved you’re nice now,
So very nice now,
And we know we can always be friends!
Help young children understand the meanings of fairness, responsibility, and forgiveness.
Adaptation: With very young children, sing the song one line at a time, with one child at a time.
