Tell children they will draw a picture of an object that is their favorite color. Then explain that you will collect all the drawings and make a group "Favorite Colors" book that children can revisit on their own or with a buddy.

Provide sheets of heavy paper folded in half lengthwise.

  • Have children search through the magazines to find a picture of something that is their favorite color. Help children glue the picture to the left side of the paper.
  • Ask children to draw on the right side of the paper a picture of something that is of the same color. Tell them they can draw a picture of a real life object or create a make-believe object.
  • Ask children to dictate to you what it is and record it at the bottom of the creation.
  • Help children write their favorite color under the picture on the left side.

Place the group book in the Library Center.
