Skill Focus: Book Care and Handling, Concepts of Print, Parts of a Book, Vocabulary
Tell children they are going to look at books with a buddy. Pair children and encourage them to work together to select a color book that interests them.
- Guide children to identify the front cover and the back cover of the book.
- Show children where to begin reading the story and where to stop.
- Then have children take turns as they carefully turn the pages and discuss the illustrations. Be available and encourage or guide children as needed.
- Acknowledge children for turning the pages gently and handling the books with care.
