Skill Focus: Concepts of Print, Vocabulary

Have children use the pictures they drew in the Art Center to write sentences about the house they would build if they could. Have children dictate/write a sentence about how they would build their houses: what tools they would use, how they would measure it, what kinds of rooms it would have, who would live in it, etc. Write children’s responses in a sentence or caption under their drawings. Point to each word as you read what you have written to the child. Create a wall display with the drawings or bind the pictures together in a class book.

English Language Learners: If English language learners have trouble putting their ideas into words, let them use pictures or draw pictures to give you a visual cue of what they are trying to verbalize. Then give them the words to say it on their own.
