Introduce the song by talking about the seeds that children planted. Explain to children that it seems like it takes a long time for plants to grow. Say, So we have to wait calmly, or be patient, until the seed is ready to sprout out of the dirt. Ask children if they thought the boy in the story was patient.
Tell children you are going to teach them a song called “I’m a Little Brown Seed.” Pantomime the movements of being under the ground, the sun shining, and rain falling. Have children sing along and act out the song with you.
I’m a Little Brown Seed
(sung to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)
I’m a little brown seed
In the ground.
I need the sunshine,
I need the rain.
If you are patient
I will grow.
Roots, stem, and flower,
Grow. Grow. Grow.
