Skill Focus: Color Recognition, Parts of a Book, Vocabulary

Tell children they will make a book about yellow. Help children fold two sheets of paper in half and crease the center.

Help children write "My Book About Yellow" on the cover, and then have them draw a colorful picture of themselves holding a yellow crayon or marker.

  • Explain that on each of the other pages of the book, children are invited to draw something that is yellow. The inside pages can be wordless or children can dictate or write captions, such as I like yellow bananas or A banana is yellow.
  • Help children write their first and last names on the cover as author and illustrator. Display the books in the Library Center for children to share.
