Display the read-aloud books Jack’s Garden by Henry Cole and The Flower Garden by Eve Bunting. Look at and acknowledge children’s artwork, writing, and charts displayed around the room. Then talk about what children did and learned this week, including their work in the learning centers. Say,

  • This week we learned more about plants and how plants grow. What is one thing you learned this week about how plants grow? Have children refer to their science notebooks to help them respond.
  • We read a book about planting seeds in a garden. What things do seeds and plants need to grow? Tell me how the seeds will get what they need to grow.
  • We saw a video about a sunflower seed. Tell me what happened after the seed was planted in the soil.
  • We observed the plants and bulbs we planted last week. Tell me one change that occurred over the week.
  • We also learned about the letter “Gg” and we talked about the word garden. Tell me a word that begins with “Gg.”

Let children choose a favorite rhyme or song from the week to recite or sing together.
