Skill Focus: Concepts of Print, Listening and Speaking, Vocabulary

Read aloud Jack’s Garden by Henry Cole to individuals or small groups. Use the illustrations to explain the meaning of unfamiliar words such as blossoms, sipped, and nectar.

Linger over the illustrations and ask children to name the colors that they see in the flowers and plants. Have them compare leafs, shapes, etc. Point out and read the border illustrations and labels. Invite children to read the repeating lines as you read.
