Make a Seed Packet
Skill Focus: Concepts of Print, Fine Motor Skills, Letter Recognition, Early Writing
Show children the seed packets. Ask them to tell you what they see on each one—front and back. Tell children you want them to think of a favorite flower or plant they have learned about or have seen. Encourage them to look at the seed packets or the flower catalogues if they cannot recall a flower or plant.
Once children have chosen a favorite tell them you want them to make a seed packet. Have them draw a picture of the plant or flower. Then have them make up a name or use the name in the catalogue and dictate or write the name of the seed on the front of their “packet.” Have them write their name on the back side of the packet.
You may want to add the seed packets to the “Plants All Around” chart.
