Talk with children about their growing plants and explain how plants need a larger area to grow in as they get bigger. Have children notice how tall the plants are, how the roots are growing outside the holes in the cups, etc. Ask children about their plants with questions such as,

  • What changes have you observed in your plants this week?
  • Do you think your plants have enough space to grow? Why or why not?
  • Why do you think the roots have crept through the holes in the bottom of the plastic cup?
