ELA Focus Skills: Phonological Awareness (Rhythm, Rhyme, and Repetition)

Have children sit in a circle. Sing “Who Are You?” After singing the second line, signal the child sitting on your right to say his or her name. After you sing the last line, have the rest of the children repeat the child’s name. Continue around the circle until each child has been acknowledged.

Who Are You?
(sung to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)
Who, who, who are you?

Say it loud and clear. (child says name)

Listen, listen, listen, listen,

Whose name do you hear? (children repeat name)

Social Emotional Tip: Recognizing their names, both spoken and in print, helps children become aware of their own uniqueness and that of others.
