Watch Together: “Word Morph: fox–foot–football” (BTL clip)

ELA Focus Skills: Active Viewing, Letter Recognition, Phonological Awareness (Beginning Sounds)

Tell children that they are going to watch a short video clip about the letter “Ff.” Play the video Between the Lions “Word Morph: fox–foot–football.” Watch it through once without pausing.

Replay the video and pause after each word so children can repeat each word. Or, challenge children to say all the words at the end.

After viewing, invite children to repeat the following tongue twister, emphasizing the initial /f/ sound:

Five funny foxes find fun.

Invite children to say the sentence with you, faster and faster. And then challenge pairs to make up another alliterative sentence with words beginning with /f/.

Adaptation: Encourage interested children to make up more alliterative sentences of their own. You may want to challenge them by giving them the number of words to include in their sentences. Read the sentences together, faster and faster.

Adaptation: With very young children, you may wish to simply say the alliterative sentence slowly with them and not do the tongue twisting, which might become frustrating for some.
