Review the word fiesta with children. Ask children what the word means and have them describe things they might see at a fiesta. Elicit from children that food is one thing at a fiesta.
Say, Let’s make a fiesta foods book. Tell children that you want them to draw a picture of a plant food that begins with the letter “Ff.” Explain that then you will make a group book called Fiesta Foods.
Distribute a sheet of paper to each child. Encourage children to look at the pictures and books for plant foods that begin with the letter “Ff.” Once children have completed their drawings, have them dictate or write the name of the food they chose.
Assemble the pages into a group book. You may want to circulate the book and have a different child bring it home each night. (Place it in a large resealable bag for protection.) Or, place the book in the Library Center.
