Skill Focus: Fine Motor Skills, Letter Recognition, Vocabulary, Word Recognition

Display the farm word card. Read the word together. Point to the letter “f” and ask, What’s the first letter in the word farm? Identify the second and third letters for children. Point to the letter “m” and ask, What’s the last letter in the word farm? Say the word aloud, emphasizing the final /m/ sound: farm-m-m-m. Ask, Do you hear the /m/ sound at the end of the word? Have children fish for the letters in the word farm and then arrange the letters to match the word on the word card.

Adaptation: For groups with older children you may want to add more “f” word cards and letters. Have them match the letters to form different words.
