Invite children to pretend cook and/or bake a favorite recipe or a recipe from the book Chicks and Salsa. Suggest that children may want to use ingredients that they purchased at the pretend grocery store (see Block Center). Before cooking, have children write and/or draw what they wish to make. Encourage children to stir, mix, chop, slice, knead, pound, and so on. Have them set the table and invite a friend or friends to share the meal. Encourage children to teach other children how to make their favorite recipe.
