ELA Focus Skills: Phonological Awareness (Segmenting); Name Recognition

Tell children you want them to join you in singing a song called “Hello, Hello, Everyone.”

  • Place the name cards face down in a pile where everyone can reach them. Point to the pile of name cards and explain that you are going to turn over the top card. Say, When you see your name, I want you to stand and say your name out loud.
  • Then explain that everyone will clap the parts of that child’s name together. Then you will sing the song together.
  • Have a child turn over the next name card. Repeat the activity until every child has had a turn.

Hello, Hello, Everyone
(sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)
Hello, hello, everyone,
Let’s clap our names
And have some fun.
Say your name
And clap along.
It will sound just like a song.
Hello, hello, everyone,
Let’s clap our names
And have some fun.

Social Emotional Tip: Give children ample opportunities to say their names aloud, as this helps them build their concept of self.
