Read A Fruit Is a Suitcase for Seeds by Jean Richards aloud to individuals or small groups. As you read, pause to let children make connections between the text and their own lives.

Invite them to point out the fruits or vegetables they particularly like. Ask children, Are the seeds inside or outside of the (apple)?

Linger over pages to allow children to talk about the animals and other things they see in the illustrations. Ask, What are some ways that seeds travel?
