ELA Focus Skills: Listening and Speaking, Vocabulary

Reread The Ugly Vegetables, Chicks and Salsa, or choose a book from the “Recommended Books and Media” list (Unit Overview) to read aloud. Ask children to identify any leaf or root plants they see in the illustrations and talk about whether they are familiar with the plants. Have them use descriptive sensory vocabulary to describe the plants they are familiar with.
