ELA Focus Skills: Active Viewing, Active Listening, Phonological Awareness (Beginning Sounds, Blending)

Play the video clip Between the Lions “Fred Says: vacuum” for children. Talk about what it means to blend word parts together. Have children blend the word vacuum with you by clapping the word parts slowly, then faster. Then show the video again and have children clap the word with Fred.

Guide children to understand that a vacuum, as Fred implies, is a machine used to clean dirt off of floors and other areas.
