Have children watch the Between the Lions video clip “Wow.” Pause the video on the word wow and say to children, Listen as I say the word wow again. What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word wow? Now say it with me: Wow! Continue to the view the video.
After viewing ask, What other words do you know that have a /w/ sound at the beginning?
Educator Tip: Guided and independent letter, sound, and word practice continues to take place in center activities. It is helpful to set up the literacy center immediately after the direct instruction and repeat instruction before children work in the literacy center identifying letters.
