Skill Focus: Fine Motor Skills, Letter Recognition, Vocabulary, Word Recognition

Display the word card river. Read the word together. Point to the letter “Rr” and ask, What’s the first letter in the word river? Point to the last letter and ask, What’s the last letter in the word river? Yes, river begins and ends with the same letter! Point to each of the remaining letters and have children name them. Then invite children to fish for the letters in the word river and arrange them in the correct order to match the letters of river on the word card.
