Have children stand in a circle. Sing the first verse of “The More We Get Together.” Invite children to join in. For the second verse, begin with the child on your right and sing as you go around the circle, shaking each child’s hand and saying his or her name. When you have sung to each child, have the whole group sing the last two lines.

The More We Get Together
(sung to the tune of “Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?”)
The more we get together,
Together, together.
The more we get together,
The happier we’ll be.
For your friends are my friends,
And my friends are your friends.
The more we get together,
The happier we’ll be.

There’s <child’s name> and <child’s name>,
and <child’s name> and <child’s name>.
There’s <child’s name> and <child’s name>,
and <child’s name> and <child’s name>.
The more we get together,
The happier we’ll be.

Social Emotional Tip: Recognizing their names, both spoken and in print, helps children recognize their own uniqueness and that of others.
