Display the read-aloud book Is It Red? Is It Yellow? Is It Blue? by Tana Hoban.

Look at and acknowledge children's artwork, writing, and charts displayed around the room. Talk about the things children did and learned about color this week, including their work in the Learning Centers.

For example, say, This week we continued to learn about different colors and shades of a color. We also began mixing paints to make different shades of color. We also learned about the letter "Yy."

  • Who can tell me something that is yellow? Something that is a darker/lighter shade of that yellow?
  • Who can tell me how you mixed a dark shade of yellow paint? A light shade of yellow?
  • Who can tell me a yellow object that was in the video poem Between the Lions "Yellow."
  • We also learned the letter "Yy." We talked about the word yellow.
  • Who can tell me another word that begins with the letter "Yy?"

Review the photos taken and the charts made throughout the week. Point out how much longer the "Colors" chart list is about colors because of all the things children added as they learned new ideas about cloors.

Congratulate children on being observant scientists as they explored colors. Invite them to take turns naming theiir favorite color activity this week and sharing what they liked about it and why it was a favorite activity.

Let children choose a favorite poem or song from the week to recity or sing togeher
