Literacy Knowledge/Alphabet Knowledge: Recognizes that the letters of the alphabet are a special category of visual graphics that can be individually named.

PreK Learning Guidelines:

English Language Arts/Reading and Literature 7: Develop familiarity with the forms of alphabet letters, awareness of print, and letter forms.

ELA Focus Skills: Fine Motor Skills, Letter Recognition, Small Motor Skills

Help children practice writing the letter “Dd.”

  • Give each child a paper with the letters “Dd” written at the top. 
  • Have children trace the letters with you.
  • Distribute pencils.
  • Let children write the letters “Dd.”
  • Encourage children to write the letters several times.

Adaptation: For children who are ready, use lined manuscript paper. Show them how you made the uppercase and lowercase letters. Tell them to refer to your letters-on-the-lines as they make their own letters.
