Skill Focus: Letter Recognition, Sorting, Vocabulary

Educator Prep: Before the activity, search through magazines, grocery fliers, book sites, etc. and create a pile of word cards for children to search through. The majority (but not all) of the words should have the letter "Pp" in in them. Tape the word and picture onto an index card so children can easily search through the pile. If possible laminate the cards so children can use erasable markers to circle the "Pp" in each word. Otherwise, supply sticky note tabs so children can place one under each letter "Pp."

Have children search through pile of word cards to find words that have an uppercase or lowercase letter “Pp.”

  • Have children circle (or place a sticky tab under) the letter "Pp" in each word.
  • After children have searched and found word cards with the letter "Pp," have them sort the cards into two piles: uppercase and lowercase "Pp" piles.
