Review the Week Together: Unit 9, Week 2

Display the read-aloud books Row, Row, Row Your Boat by Iza Trapani and Toy Boat by Randall de Sève. Look at and acknowledge children’s artwork, writing, and charts displayed around the room. Then talk about what children did and learned this week, including their work in the Learning Centers.

• Ask, Who would like to share something about the book Row, Row, Row Your Boat? About the book Toy Boat? What happens as the boats float on the water?
• Say, We made dams. Share some of your observations of what a dam does to the water in a stream.
• Say, We saw the rest of the Between the Lions show called “River Story.” What happens to river water when it meets the ocean?
• Say, We talked about animals that live in water habitats. What is an animal that lives in fresh water, like a river or pond? What is a water animal that lives in a saltwater ocean?
• Display the river word card. Ask, What is this word? Yes, it’s the word river. What sound do you hear at the beginning of river? Yes, /r/. Who can tell me another word that begins with the /r/ sound?
• Display the dam word card. Ask, What is this word? Yes, it’s the word dam. What sound do you hear at the beginning of dam? Yes, /d/. Who can tell me a word that rhymes with dam?
• Say, We did many things this week. Which was your favorite activity?
