Skill Focus: Compare and Contrast, Letter Recognition, Matching and Sorting, Vocabulary

Make two columns on a large sheet of paper. Write the uppercase “B” at the top of one column and the lowercase “b” at the top of the other. Point to each letter and review the characteristics of the uppercase and lowercase “Bb.” Then select a letter from the bag. Talk about how it looks and in which column to place it. This letter has a straight line and one bump. What column will you put it in? Yes, it belongs here, in the lowercase “b” section. Have children work alone or in pairs to sort and match the letters.
