Tell children you are going to give them clues to animals that begin with the /b/ sound. Have them listen to the clues and try to guess what animal you are describing. Say, I’ll give you hints. Try to guess the animal. Show children pictures of the animals to confirm their guesses:
- Say, I’m thinking of an animal that flies in the sky. It has wings. There are many different kinds of this animal. What is it? (bird)
- Say, I’m thinking of an animal that has sharp teeth. It gnaws trees and builds dams. What is it? (beaver)
- Say, I’m thinking of a very small animal that flies. It makes a buz-z-z-z sound. It can sting you. What is it? (bee)
- Say, I’m thinking of a big animal that has fur and sleeps in a den. It growls. We read a book about one that likes to row a boat. What animal is it? (bear)
