Tell children they are going to watch the PEEP and the Big Wide World live-action video clip “Making Boats.”
After children watch, discuss the video and follow up with questions, such as:
- What kinds of things did the children use to make boats?
- How did Emma get her boat to sink?
- Why didn’t Josh’s boat sink?
- What did the walnuts do to the boat? How about the rock?
- What other things might make our boats sink?
- What other things would you like to use to make boats?
- Do you think you could make those other boats sink, too?
Educator Tip: Watching and discussing the selected PEEP stories and live-action video clips can spark and extend children’s interest and understanding of water. We suggest that children watch the video clips after they have had an opportunity to do their own initial exploration of water. That way your children can compare their experiences and discoveries with those shown on the video clip and think about what additional water explorations they might like to try.
