Skill Focus: Active Viewing, Color Recognition, Vocabulary

Invite children to play the PEEP and the Big Wide World interactive online game “Paint Splat. Explain to children that they will help Quack mix colors until he matches the color card Chirp is holding.

  • Have a volunteer to click on a tube of paint to make it "splat" on the fence.
  • Then explain that he will click on another color to "splat" on the fence. Say, Quack just splat a color on the fence! Which color should Quack splat next to make the color Chirp is holding? What color mixes with <yellow> to make <orange>? Help Quack "splat"!
  • Explain that before Chirp will show another card, they must "clean" the paint splat off the fence. Show children how to click on the hose to wash the color off and play again.

As children play, ask them to name the colors they see on the screen.
