ELA Focus Skills: Active Viewing, Letter Recognition, Phonological Awareness (Beginning Sounds)

Tell children that they are going to watch the Between the Lions video clip “Doo Wop (short u)” about the letter sound short /u/.

  • Help children understand that the singers use the letter sound /u/ to make music.
  • Replay the video again and invite children to sing along with the Doo Wops as they sing the short /u/ sound.

Educator Tip: Guided and independent letter, sound, and word practice continues to take place in center activities. It is helpful to set up the literacy center immediately after the direct instruction and repeat instruction before children work in the literacy center identifying letters.
