Watch Together: "Word Morph: quarter–quail–quill–quilt" (BTL clip)
ELA Focus Skills: Active Viewing, Letter Recognition
Before You Watch
Tell children they are going to watch a video clip about the letter "q" called Between the Lions “Word Morph: quarter–quail–quill–quilt.”
- Set a viewing focus by asking children to notice the letter "q" when it appears on the screen.
As You Watch
Show the video clip once without pausing.
- Play it a second time and pause after each word (quarter, quail, quill, quilt) so children can repeat the word.
- Then have children call out "q" each time they see the letter on the screen.
Educator Tip: Guided and independent letter, sound, and word practice continues to take place in center activities. It is helpful to set up the literacy center immediately after the direct instruction and repeat instruction before children work in the literacy center identifying letters.
