As You Watch
Model active viewing by naming the characters, describe the action, repeat the featured words (seed, grow, plant, weed) and move along to mimic planting and caring for the seed.

As children watch, ask them to look for the things the boy does to help the seed grow.

After You Watch
Ask questions such as,

  • What does the boy do to help his seed grow?
  • What else does the boy do to help the seed grow?
  • Have children share any planting experiences they have had and include talk about weeds. Explain that weeds are plants that grow very quickly.  Ask,
  • Why do you think the little boy pulled the weeds around the carrot seed?
