ELA Focus Skills: Concepts of Print, Gross Motor Skills, Vocabulary

Educator Prep: Write the words to "All Day Long" on chart paper and display it so children can easiy view it. Display pictures of various instruments that children will likely recognize and can act out playing. (drum, guitar, trumpet, saxaphone, etc.)

Tell children they are going to sing the song “All Day Long,” like the Lions did in the video.

  • Display the “All Day Long” song chart. Tell children that at the end of each sentence you will ask one child to name or hold up the picture of an instrument
  • Say, Then I will sing the song and you will all march around the room as you pretend to play the instrument chosen.
  • Once children are familiar with the words of the song, have them join in and sing as they parade around.
  • Repeat until each child has chosen an instrument from the picture pile.

Take It Further: Have children create a new song by substituting the instruments for something they like to do all day long. Ask each child to name something they like to do (hug my mom; run around; collect pebbles, etc.) Copy templates of the song lyrics (1 for each child) and leave a blank line for children to dictate or write their response. Have children illustrate their song page.
