Educator Prep: Print out the Between the Lions alphabet chart or create an alphabet chart on chart paper.

Display plastic letters, name cards, photocopies of book titles, and an alphabet chart. Allow children to freely explore letters. Talk with children and encourage them to ask questions as they explore the materials.

Adaptation: For children who are able to name the letters of the alphabet, reinforce their knowledge and help them develop letter name fluency by having them name the letter as they hold it up: This is a D; This is an A.
