Display pictures of children’s facial expressions (happy, sad, worried) on a table so all children can reach them. Have children work in pairs or small groups.

  • Tell children they will watch the video Between the Lions  “But, Mama, But…” again. Explain that for this viewing you will stop the video at different points. Say, When I stop the video, I want you to choose a picture on the table that you think shows a person having the same feeling Leona is experiencing in the video. 
  • Have children describe the feeling portrayed as they hold up the picture. Ask, Can you tell us what the child in your picture is feeling? What do you notice in the picture that makes you think the child is feeling that way? Then point to the screen of Leona showing the same feeling and ask, Why do you think Leona is feeling <worried>?
