Have children sit together in a circle. Tell them you are going to sing a song with them called “Friend of Mine.”

Explain to children that you will sing the song to each child. Say, Before I sing to a child, I will roll a ball to her or him.  Instruct children to be ready, because when they receive the ball, you want them to say their name out loud. Say, And then everyone will say “Hi, <child's name>!”  Then sing the song.

Practice one round. Continue around the circle and repeat the process until each child has had a turn.

Friend of Mine
(sung to the tune of “London Bridge”)
<Child’s name> is a new friend of mine,
friend of mine,
friend of mine.

<Child’s name> is a new friend of mine.
Let’s say hello to <child’s name>.
