Tell children they are going to join you in singing the greeting song “Where Is?”

Explain to children that they are to stand up when you sing their name. Say, When a child stands up, we will all turn to that child and sing, “There s/he is!”

As you sing each name, clap the syllables to begin to get children aware of listening to different parts of a word.

Sing the final verse to the child standing. Continue until all children have been acknowledged.

Where Is? (version A)
(sung to the tune of “Frère Jacques”)

Where is <child’s name>?

Where is <child’s name>?

(child/ren)

Here I am. (There he/she is.)

Here I am. (There he/she is.)

(educator)

We are glad that you are with us.
So glad that you are with us.

Smile and wave.

And now sit down.
