Educator’s Prep: Print out the Between the Lions “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” song chart or copy the words onto chart paper.

Display the song for children to see.

  • Say the first two lines and underline the word "star" in the first line and the word "are" in the second line. Ask children to listen carefully as you say the words again. Emphasize the rhyme.
  • Ask children what they notice about the two words. (sound the same) Tell children they are rhyme words.
  • Give pairs of words and have children stand up if the words rhyme. (high/sky, library/wonder, book/cook, etc.)
