Talk Together: At the Library
Display the sample items that can be found in a library.
Review with children the different types of books they learned about in the Between the Lions "Read a Book Today" video clip. Encourage children to share their favorite books and stories.
Then discuss what children have learned about informational books.
- Draw attention to the sample books and point out different types of informational books. (e.g., photo books, how-to books, cookbooks) DIscuss what type of information each book communicates to the reader.
Ask children to share any other items they have seen at the library. If children need prompting, hold up samples such as magazines, newspapers, books on tape, maps, CDs, and DVDs.
