PreK Learning Guidelines:

English Language Arts/Reading and Literature 7: Develop familiarity with the forms of alphabet letters, awareness of print, and letter forms.

Play Together: “ABCD Watermelon” (BTL game)

Educator Prep: Print out the Between the Lions alphabet chart or create an alphabet chart on chart paper.

Have a small group of children gather around the Technology Center and work togetehr to match the letters from the interactive game Between the Lions “ABCD Watermelon” to the alphabet chart.

Display the Between the Lion alphabet chart. Explain to children that when the lion stops singing the alphabet song they are to look at the alphabet chart and find the next letter in the alphabet. Remind children that the alphabet letters are in order. Point to the order on the chart.

Demonstrate how to play, point as you say, Look at the last letter the lion sings in the game. Match that letter to the chart and find the letter that comes next. Then click on that letter in the game. Play a few rounds with children until they are comfortable with the game on their own. 

Have childen take turns playing and encourage them to sing “The ABC Song” as they play.
