Review the Week Together: Unit 3, Week 1
Display the read-aloud books The Listening Walk by Paul Showers and Max Found Two Sticks by Jerry Pinkney. Look at and praise children’s artwork, writing, and charts displayed around the room. Talk about the things children did and learned this week, including their work in the Learning Centers.
For example, say, This week we began learning about sounds. We also learned about the letter "Ss."
Ask children to name some of the sounds they heard this week, and to identify any favorite sounds. Ask questions such as,
- Who can tell me about a sound you made with the tap and scrap materials?
- Who can tell me about a loud sound you hear outdoors? A quiet sound?
- How did you find the source of the sound?
- Can you make a sound like Max did in the story we read?
- We also learned about the letter "Ss." We talked about the word sound.
- Can you tell me another word that begins with the letter "s?"
Review the charts made throughout the week. Point out how much longer the list is about sounds is because of all the ideas children added as they learned new things.
Congratulate the children on being observant scientists as they explored sounds. Invite them to take turns naming their favorite sound activity this week and sharing why it was a favorite.
Let children choose a favorite poem or song from the week to recite or sing together.
