Gather children in a circle to chant “Welcome, Welcome” with them. This time, ask children to say their name with a high voice and then a low voice.
- Tell children that you are going to go around the circle and say the chant to each child.
- Say, When it’s time, I want you to say your name after we chant "Welcome, Welcome." Explain that when it is time for them to say their name, you will point to them, and the first time, they are to respond in a high voice, and the next time, in a low voice.
Demonstrate once with a volunteer before you begin. Have children join in the chant and continue until each child has had a chance to respond.
Welcome, Welcome
Welcome, welcome <name of a child>,
Now you’re here,
We’ll have some fun.
First we’ll clap our hands just so,
Then we’ll bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome <name of a child>,
Now you’re here,
We’ll have some fun.
