Make a large uppercase “O” on the floor or ground outdoors with tape or chalk.

  • Mark the top of the letter with a star as the starting point. Have children walk counterclockwise around the letter “O.”
  • Encourge them to shape their mouths in an "O" shape and have some children shout "O" in a loud voice and others whisper it in a soft voice as they walk.
  • Repeat with a lowercase letter “o.” This time have children use their thumb and forefinger to make an "O" to wave in the air as they walk and name the letter.

Ask children to describe the difference between the letters (same shape, different size).
