Learn About Letter Sounds Together: Bag of Sounds (/m/)
ELA Focus Skills: Phonological Awareness
Show children a bag filled with objects that begin with the /m/ sound.
- Ask a child to pull an object from the bag and name the object.
- Repeat the word emphasizing the beginning /m/ sound.
- Ask, What sound is at the beginning of the word <m-m-m-marker>?
- Repeat the process with the other objects.
Take It Further: You may want to include objects that begin with distinctly different sounds, such as a giraffe, camel, and monkey. After children name the object, ask, Does giraffe begin with the /m/ sound?
