Tell children you want them to sing and act out the song “Abiyoyo Is a Giant” with you.

  • First, demonstrate for the children and perform the song alone with a high pitch voice and the motions. Ask, Can you describe the sound of my voice as I was singing the song? (high)
  • Repeat with a low pitch.

Then tell children you are going to call out High! or Low!, and you want them to join you in singing the song in that pitch. Invite children to make sounds with their hands and feet as they sing and dance, too.

After a few rounds, ask children all the different ways they made music while performing the song. (with their voices, their feet, their hands)

Abiyoyo Is a Giant
(sung to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)
Abiyoyo is a giant,
He fills the town with fear. (clasp arms together and shiver)
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! (stomp feet)
Abiyoyo is here. (or sing “Abiyoyo’s here”)

I play my ukelele, (strum air with fingers)
It makes a happy sound. (dance)
Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance! (dance)
The giant’s on the ground. (crouch to the ground)

Dad waves his magic wand, (wave hand or wand in air)
He waves it in the air. (wave hand or wand in air)
Zoop! Zoop! Zoop! Zoop! (wave hand or wand in air)
The giant disappears.
ABIYOYO!
