Encourage children to select a sound or music book that interests them and to look at the words and pictures on their own or with other children. Ask children to talk about the features of the book, including the front, back, spine, etc., and tell what is the purpose of each part. Ask children if they can identify any letters or read what’s on the covers. Then ask children to tell you about the book they have selected. Ask them to predict what they think the book will be about. Let children turn the pages, prompting them as needed. Ask them to use any new sound vocabulary to describe some of the sounds in the book and what is making them.
